About the Department
The Department of Human Physiology started its journey in 2006 with 3 students only (against intake capacity of 15 students) in B.Sc. General Course. In 2008, Honours Course was introduced with intake capacity of 10 students along with 35 students in General course of 35 intake capacity. The subject’s intake capacity was increased to 15 for Honours and 45 for General in 2011 and to 30 for Honours and 75 for General in 2014. The aims of the Department include trying hard for excellence in biomedical education and research to boost and promote human well-being and welfare. The course on Human Physiology deals with the human structures and their functional operations in respect of all levels of hierarchy from elements, molecules, cells, tissues and organs to organ systems leading to the maintenance of bodily homeostasis.

Strength, Weakness, Opportunities & Threats analysis (SWOT) of the dept.
Our strength
- Potentially strong and dedicated faculty members comprising of one permanent Assistant
Professor and two Guest Lecturers (part-time).
- The dedication, sincerity, punctuality and dedication of the faculty members motivate the students in their academic pursuits.
- The performance of the students of our department is excellent in terms of percentage of students qualifying in university examinations.
- There is a well-maintained library and internet facility in the department.
Our weakness
(a) The department is facing acute shortage of permanent faculty members.
- There is a shortage of trained laboratory assistants.
- There is a limitation of financial resources for the procurement of equipment & chemicals for laboratories.
- There is a lack of post graduate programme in Human Physiology in the college and it adversely affects the higher education prospectus of the students of the area.
- Lack of opportunities for Ph.D. guideship is unfavourably affecting the research temperament of the faculty.
Our opportunities
The faculty members are student-friendly and committed to hard work.
Our challenges
- The majority of the students, who come from Bengali medium schools and rural area, consider the ‘instruction in English medium’ and shortage of Bengali medium books as barriers because of the lack of self confidence. It is a real challenge for the faculty members to motivate them to take Human Physiology and retain their interest in the subject.
- Striving hard for modern infrastructure in the Department.
- Difficulty of getting latest Science Magazines, Research Journals and wall magazines.
Future Plans
- The department is desirous of setting up an advanced laboratory for Honours students and research laboratory for faculty along with sophisticated instruments/equipment
- The department wants to undertake PG programme with a reasonable ambition that this pioneer institute of Higher learning may play its role in the higher education of the students.
